FAQ

I'm quite happy where I am at the moment, would it still be ok to request a counselling session?

Absolutely. We would be very happy to meet with you at our office, or a place of convenience to you to discuss the market. If you have any questions, feel free to ask at any time.

Do you have any overseas positions?

This is a common question we have from many of our candidates. As we are partnered with multiple firms in S.E Asia, Europe and Middle East, we do have positions available.

I've heard about consulting, but I don't know too much about it. Can you tell me a little bit more?

Think of consulting as an extensive learning and development program. While you are working in an in-house position, there is only so much of the business you can and will be exposed to (unless of course you are in an executive or business strategy position).

However, if you work in consulting, you will have an opportunity to learn about multiple business functions across various industries, setting you up for a bigger career in the future.

How long will the recruitment process take?

It will take about 6 weeks, on average. We have had cases which take 3 days, whereas others have taken more than 6 months. It really depends on your situation. We can try to have processes expedited or slowed down if necessary as well.

I'm not in Japan, can I still apply?

Sure, although for most divisions in most firms, fluency in Japanese is a must.

What are the average salaries like in consulting? What about insurance?

– Consulting firms can pay very well – however they are also very picky about who they hire. If you have the right skill and experience, salary negotiations will not be a problem at all.

– Insurance companies pay well, comparable to other financial institutions.

Is it stable to work in consulting? How about insurance?

– Yes it is stable. Most consulting firms do not employ an ‘up or out’ culture.

– However this industry does generally have a fairly high turnover, but this is mainly due to employees seeking to go (back) in-house, into larger executive (facing) positions. The average life-span of a consultant is about 3-5yrs.

– Insurance firms are also seen as stable, with a very low turnover.

What kind of people do consulting firms hire?

Individuals with strong educational backgrounds, deep knowledge of business functions and industries, entrepreneurial mindset, highly motivated, ambitious, team players but also with leadership capabilities. It might sound tough, but with a little preparation, we will be able to help you get there.

What qualifications do I need to join a consulting firm?

Depending on the area you wish to apply, you might need to have a qualification such as a USCPA, MBA, Japan BAR, etc. However, this is not always necessary.
